Venturing is a youth development program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women who are 14 (and have completed the eighth grade) through 20 years of age. Venturing's purpose is to provide positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults.

Anyone wanting more info should contact Janet Mallon at 547-8996

"Venturing provides a high level of opportunities for achievement, learning, and outdoor activities.  Our group tries to plan one big, many-day trek each year.  Last summer (2008) some of the boys went to Colorado, and to the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico for almost 2 weeks.  The summer before (2007), the co-ed group went on an 8 day canoe trip to LaVerendrye Wildlife Preserve in Canada.  The summer before that (2006), some members went on a canoe trip to Algonquin Provincial Park in Canada.  Each journey offered different experiences.  The group has camped out many times in the outdoors, as well as in lean-tos, and in a cabin at Camp Wakpominee.  Going to the climbing wall in Rutland, VT is also a favorite activity.

As a Venturer, youth can also follow an advancement program to earn their Bronze, Gold and Silver Awards.  Earning the Silver Award in Venturing is much like earning an Eagle Scout Award in Boy Scouting.  Venture Crew 72 of Ticonderoga,NY is co-ed, though many other Venturing Groups are single gendered.  Membership is $10/person/year, plus a dollar for insurance.

The BPOE (Elk's) of Ticonderoga is our Charter Organization. They have been very supportive of us and we seem to be a good match. They provide a place for us to meet, and we do some projects for them.  Recently, Venture Crew 72, along with the Boy Scout Troop 72 and Cub Scout Pack 72, served dinners at the Elk's Club to Veterans on Veterans Day.  That is an example of the Community Service component of Scouting."
